2012 Ward's Ten Best Engines
MAHLE Supplies Components and Systems for All 10 of Ward's 10 Best Engines for 2012
MAHLE has always been well represented on the Ward’s 10 Best Engines winners list. However, 2012 marks the first time to have components on all 10 engines.
Ward’s 10 Best Engines, now in its 18th year, is North America’s only award program honoring excellence in vehicle powertrains. The competition recognizes the latest powertrain technologies that are affordable to most consumers, boost horsepower and torque, sound appealing and pair up well with their respective vehicles.
A record seven of this year’s winners integrate state-of-the-art direct fuel injection, demonstrating the rapid pace of technology development as automakers downsize their engines in anticipation of strict U.S fuel economy rules.
WardsAuto editors chose the winners after driving 36 vehicles with 34 new or significantly upgraded engines. They scored each engine based on power, technology, observed fuel economy and noise, vibration and harshness characteristics. To be eligible, each engine has to be available in a regular-production U.S.-specification model on sales no later than first quarter 2012, in a vehicle with a base price below $55,000. Winners from the 2011 competition were automatically eligible and evaluated against the new engines for 2012.
Winners were recognized at a January 11th ceremony in Detroit during the North American International Auto Show. MAHLE has been a gold sponsor of this event every year since 2008. Representatives from Chrysler, Ford, Hyundai and Nissan all joined us as our guests at this year’s luncheon and ceremony.
Along with the MAHLE components supplied for each engine, below is the list of the 2012 winners.
